About Eliza McCartney
Eliza McCartney is a pole vaulter from Auckland, New Zealand. Born on December 11, 1996, she has had an illustrious career, setting New Zealand, Oceanian and outdoor world junior records.
In 2016, McCartney represented New Zealand at the Summer Olympics and won a bronze medal in the pole vault event. Before her fame as a pole vaulter, she attended Takapuna Grammar School and was involved in various sports such as netball, basketball and squash.
Notably, at the age of 19 years and 252 days old, McCartney became the youngest-ever Olympic medalist in women’s pole vaulting. Her father William was a high jumper while her mother Donna was a gymnast. She also has two younger brothers.
