Eliza Frances Andrews was an American novelist born on August 10, 1840, in Georgia. She is best known for her work “The War-Time Journal of a Georgian Girl” published in 1908. Before gaining recognition as a writer, she worked as a teacher and eventually became the principal of an all-female school in Mississippi.
Andrews was a popular southern writer and frequently contributed stories and essays to publications such as the New York World and Godey’s Lady’s Book. In addition to her literary pursuits, she wrote two botany textbooks.
Born to Annulet Ball and Garnett Andrews, Eliza was raised in Georgia. Her father had dual roles as an attorney and slave owner.
