About Elisaveta Bagriana
Elisaveta Bagriana was a Bulgarian poet born on April 16, 1893 in Sofia. She is recognized as a pioneer of Bulgarian women’s literature and gained acclaim for her body of work, earning a Nobel Prize nomination. Her notable poems include “The Well,” “The Eternal,” and “The Elements.” Before achieving fame as a poet, she pursued higher education in Slavic Philology at Sofia University and started publishing her poems shortly after graduating.
Bagriana received the prestigious gold medal from the National Association of Poets in Rome in 1969. Although born in Sofia, she spent most of her youth living in Veliko Tarnovo.
