Dorothy Stratten was a Canadian Playboy model and actress, born on February 28, 1960 in Vancouver, Canada. She gained fame as the Playboy Playmate of the Month in August 1979 and later as Playmate of the Year in 1980. Tragically, her life ended at the young age of 20 when she was murdered.
Prior to her modeling career, Stratten attended Centennial High School in Coquitlam and worked at a Dairy Queen. Her path to fame began when she sent nude photos to Playboy Magazine and signed a contract with them.
Stratten’s murder led to an enduring legacy that included being depicted in two films based on her life story. Additionally, Peter Bogdanovich wrote the book “The Killing of the Unicorn” about her life; he eventually married her sister.
In 1979, she married club promoter Paul Snider. However their marriage hit troubled waters leading up to Snider brutally murdering Stratten.
