About Doris Kearns Goodwin
Doris Kearns Goodwin, born on January 4, 1943 in Brooklyn, New York, is an American historian and political commentator. She is renowned for her Pulitzer Prize-winning book “No Ordinary Time: Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt: The Home Front in World War II,” as well as other notable works such as “The Fitzgeralds and the Kennedys: An American Saga” and “Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln.”
Goodwin attended Colby College and Harvard University before serving as a White House Fellow during the administration of Lyndon B. Johnson. She published her highly successful debut work, ‘Lyndon Johnson and the American Dream,’ in 1977.
In addition to her literary accomplishments, Goodwin’s historical account about Abraham Lincoln was adapted into the screenplay for the Steven Spielberg film ‘Lincoln’ by playwright Tony Kushner (known for ‘Angels in America’).
In 1975 she married Richard N. Goodwin who served as a political speechwriter; together they have three sons named Richard, Michael, and Joseph.
