About Diane Ackerman
Diane Ackerman (born October 7, 1948) is an Illinois-born poet, author, and naturalist known for her notable work entitled A Natural History of the Senses, published in 1990. Her literary repertoire includes works such as Wife of Light (poems), Animal Sense (children’s poems), and The Zookeeper’s Wife (nonfiction).
Ackerman pursued a degree in English at Pennsylvania State University before continuing her education at Cornell University for graduate school.
In 1983, she married author and poet Paul West. Ackerman’s seminal book also inspired a NOVA miniseries titled Mystery of the Senses.
