About Di Brandt
Di Brandt (born January 31, 1952) is a Canadian feminist poet, critic, and academic known for her works such as “Jerusalem, beloved,” “questions i asked my mother,” and “So this is the world & here I am in it.” Her poetry has been shortlisted for prestigious honors including the Trillium Prize and the Griffin Poetry Prize.
Prior to her writing career, Brandt earned degrees from both the University of Manitoba and the University of Toronto. She subsequently taught at institutions such as the University of Windsor and Brandon University.
Brandt grew up in a Canadian Mennonite community with a fraternal twin sister and two other siblings. She later married Les Brandt, an artist, with whom she had two children.
In addition to her literary pursuits, many of Brandt’s poems have been adapted into music compositions. This includes pieces featured in her collection “Sweet, Sweet Blood.”
