About Derrick Lewis
Derrick Lewis (born February 8, 1985) is a heavyweight mixed martial artist from New Orleans, Louisiana. He has competed in promotions such as Bellator, Legacy, and UFC. In 2014, he signed with the UFC after holding the Legacy heavyweight champion title for two years.
Before beginning his MMA career, Lewis attended Kilgore College on a football scholarship but later served a three and a half year prison sentence for parole violation. Following his release from jail, he discovered mixed martial arts.
Lewis earned honors such as UFC Fight of the Night in June 2017 and Performance of the Night in June 2016 at UFC Fight Night. He married his wife April in June 2017 and has three children with her. He grew up as one of seven siblings raised by his single mother.
