About Cristina Mittermeier
Cristina Mittermeier, born on November 26, 1966 in Mexico City, is a renowned photographer known for her journalistic approach to landscape, nature, and cultural photography. She has documented the Kayapo central Amazon tribe and is the founder and former President of the International League of Conservation Photographers. With over 1.6 million followers on Instagram, she shares her impactful works with a global audience.
Before embarking on her photography career, Mittermeier earned an undergraduate degree in marine biology from the Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey. She further honed her skills by studying photography at the Corcoran College for the Arts in Washington, D.C.
In recognition of her exceptional talent and dedication to conservation photography, she was honored as one of Sony’s Artisans of Imagery in 2008. Additionally, Mittermeier has contributed significantly to environmental causes through her role as a director for the WILD Foundation and as the main photographer behind the Defying Ocean’s End Conference in Los Cabos, Mexico in 2003.
Mittermeier married Dr. Russell Mittermeier in 1991; together they have co-authored several books.
