Cris Morena, born on August 23, 1956 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, is an award-winning TV producer and actress. She is best known for creating popular youth shows such as Chiquititas, Rebelde Way, and Aliados.
Morena also has a talent for music composition and has created music for various television shows including Brigada Cola, Ritmo de la Noche, and Videomatch.
Prior to her successful career in the entertainment industry, Morena began her professional life as a model for Lee Jeans at the age of seventeen. Over almost twenty years she appeared in acting roles and presented on television shows in Argentina. Her acting debut was as Laura Morena in the 1979 telenovela Dulce Fugitiva – it was after this role that she adopted her stage name Cris Morena.
She’s had success adapting some of her TV productions into staged musicals including one based on Chiquititas. She also brought Argentine performances of Broadway productions like Spring Awakening.
Originally born Maria Cristina De Giacomi, she tragically lost a daughter Romina at age 36. Her son Tomas Yankelevich followed his mother into the entertainment industry working as a producer and director for Telefe.
