Corrine Brown is a Democrat politician who served as the U.S. Representative for Florida’s 5th congressional district from 1993 until 2017. Born on November 11, 1946 in Jacksonville, Florida, she earned a master’s degree in 1971 and an educational specialist degree from the University of Florida in 1974 after completing her bachelor of science at Florida A&M University. She was also a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority during her time at FAMU.
In addition to her political career, Brown has faced controversy. In 2017, she was convicted of 18 felony criminal charges related to embezzling funds from a charity.
During her tenure, she made headlines for calling the Bush administration policies on Haiti racist and referring to his representatives as “a bunch of white men.”
Brown is the mother of Attorney Shantrel Brown.
