About Corinne Diacre
Corinne Diacre is a French professional soccer manager and former defender, born on August 4, 1974, in Croix, France. She played for the Soyaux team in Division 1 and represented the France national team from 1993 to 2005, serving as captain for much of that time.
In August 2014, Diacre made history by becoming the first woman to coach a men’s professional football team when she led the Clermont team in a competitive match. Following three seasons with Clermont, she became head coach of the French Women’s National Team until her contract was terminated amid controversy in 2023.
Diacre began her soccer career at ASJ Soyaux in 1988 before making her debut with the French national team at age 18. Her managerial career started with managing ASJ Soyaux’s team and being an assistant manager for the French national team.
In October of 2006, Diacre suffered an ACL injury which ended her playing career at age 32. She represented France at multiple European Championships while also dealing with personal tragedies such as losing both parents during different times of her coaching career.
Her coaching style has sparked controversy among players and professionals in the field due to incidents like ignoring key players during drafts for the FIFA Women’s World Cup and having an outdated approach to coaching.
