Chelo Perez, born on January 18, 1943, in Zapopan, Mexico, is a renowned world music singer. She began her career as part of the cumbia group Chelo y su Conjunto before embarking on a successful solo career in the ranchera genre.
Some of her top songs include “Mejor Me Voy,” “Que Sacrificio,” “Dos Gotas De Agua,” and “Volveras Por Mi,” with the latter reaching number 1 on Billboard’s Mexican Top Ten list.
Born Consuelo Perez Rubio in La Experiencia, Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico, she was also known as either La Reina Ranchera de Mexico or La Voz Ranchera de Mexico. Additionally,she appeared in 13 movies during her career.
Perez is the cousin of fellow cumbia artist Mike Laure and had a daughter named Yesenia Flores who also pursued a singing career.
