About Caroll Spinney
Caroll Spinney was a renowned puppeteer best known for his work on the educational television program, Sesame Street. He was born on December 26, 1933 in Waltham, Massachusetts.
Prior to his fame as a puppeteer, Spinney served in the United States Air Force under the pseudonym Ed Spinney and also created the show Rascal Rabbit while working in Las Vegas. He had a diverse career that included roles as a cartoonist, author, speaker and artist.
A significant part of his legacy comes from providing the voices for two iconic Sesame Street characters: Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch. Throughout his career he made numerous guest appearances as Big Bird on various programs including Portlandia, Good Morning America, and Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
In 1979 he married Debra Spinney making her his second wife. Caroll passed away in December of 2019 after contributing significantly to children’s entertainment through beloved characters like Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch.
