About Carolyn Kizer
Carolyn Kizer (born December 10, 1925) is an American poet known for her feminist perspective. In 1985, she was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for her collection titled “Yin.” Some of her other notable works include “Mermaids in the Basement” and “Midnight Was My Cry.”
Kizer attended Sarah Lawrence College, Columbia University, and the University of Washington before establishing herself as a prolific poet. She also served as the editor of Poetry Northwest during the early 1960s.
In addition to her literary pursuits, Kizer was married twice and had three children with her first husband, Stimson Bullitt. After their divorce, she later married John Marshall Woodbridge.
