About Caroline Barnum
Caroline Barnum, born on May 27, 1833 in Fairfield, Connecticut, was the eldest daughter of the famous showman and businessman PT Barnum. She is known for accompanying her father during his production of Jenny Lind‘s tour of America in 1850, even posing as Lind to ensure the opera singer’s safe exit from her shows.
Prior to gaining prominence herself, Caroline’s father had already risen to fame for his circus P. T. Barnum’s Grand Traveling Museum, Menagerie, Caravan & Hippodrome where he promoted attractions such as the Fiji mermaid and General Tom Thumb.
A curious fact regarding her personal life is that on the day of her wedding in 1852, a fire nearly destroyed her father’s mansion. She frequently traveled with him during his years promoting his circus.
Caroline was married to David Thompson and they had two children together named Phineas and Frances.
