About Blaze Starr
Blaze Starr, born on April 10, 1932 in West Virginia, was a comedian known for her comedic burlesque act. She is famously remembered for her affair with Louisiana politician Earl Kemp Long and the memoir “Blaze,” which inspired a 1989 movie of the same name.
Prior to her fame, Blaze began performing after being scouted in Washington, D.C. while working as a doughnut seller. After retiring from her career as a comedienne and burlesque dancer, she became a jewelry maker.
She was one of eleven children born to Goodlow and Lora Fleming and spent her youth in Wilsondale, West Virginia.
