About Betsy Lou Franco
Betsy Lou Franco (born August 15, 1947) is an American writer, actress, and mother to James, Dave, and Tom Franco. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, she is best known for her role on the soap opera General Hospital from 2010 to 2014 where she portrayed the on-screen mother of her real-life son James.
Prior to her acting career, Betsy focused on raising her three sons while also writing poetry, screenplays, plays and novels including You Hear Me: Poems & Writing by Teenage Boys, Things I Have To Tell You: Poems & Writing by Teenage Girls, Counting Our Way to the 100th Day, Naked, and Falling Hard: 100 Love Poems by Teenagers.
A graduate of Stanford University with a focus in fine arts , Betsy attributes much of her creativity to this experience which enabled a seamless transition from painting to writing. She was married to Douglas Eugene Franco until his passing in 2011 and shares a passion for cats with all three of her sons.
