Bernice Madigan was an American supercentenarian born on July 24, 1899, in West Springfield, Massachusetts. She passed away at the age of 115 years and 1963 days, making her the fifth-oldest person in the world at the time of her death.
Madigan held a place in history as one of 100 centenarians included in The Archon Genomics XPRIZE’s genome sequencing project. Prior to her later-life notoriety, she graduated from Adams High School in 1918 and moved to Washington D.C., where she worked as a secretary for both the Veterans Administration and the Treasury Department.
She was known for her lifelong Republican views and notably attended President Warren G. Harding’s Inauguration in 1921. Madigan was married to Paul for over five decades until his passing in 1976; together they had a brother named Roy and sister named Marilyn.
