Barbara Sukowa, born on February 2, 1950 in Bremen, Germany, is a German actress and singer known for her acclaimed performances in films such as Berlin Alexanderplatz, Lola, Marianne and Juliane, Europa, and Two of Us. Throughout her career she has received numerous accolades including three Bavarian Film Awards, the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress and a Venice Film Festival Award.
Prior to her success in film, Sukowa studied acting at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna after growing up in Bremen. She began her career with theater productions before transitioning to screen roles. In addition to being recognized for her work on film she has also been nominated for European Film Awards and Grammys.
Besides German which is her native language; Sukowa is multilingual being fluent in English and French. Her versatility as an actress was showcased when she portrayed Kathy Dassler in the 2023 sports drama Air. Her personal life includes relationships with Hans-Michael Rehberg from whom she has one son , Daniel Olbrychski from whom she has another son ,and Robert Longo with whom she shares a third child.
