About Athing Mu
Athing Mu is an American runner, born on June 8, 2002 in Trenton, New Jersey. She represented Team USA in the women’s 4×400m relay and 800m events during the 2020 Summer Olympics, becoming the youngest gold medal Olympian in US history at just 19 years old.
She also won gold at the 2022 World Athletics Championships. Mu first started running track at age six and later earned a scholarship to Texas A&M University. After her Olympic victory, she continued her success by becoming the first American woman to win the 800m world title and achieving a three-year straight outdoor track meet winning streak.
Mu grew up with her parents and six siblings in Trenton, New Jersey and was born of South Sudanese descent.
