About Arlene Alda
Arlene Alda (born March 12, 1933) is an accomplished children’s author and photographer, known for her more than a dozen published children’s books including Sheep, Sheep Sheep, Help Me Fall Asleep (1992) and Arlene Alda’s 1,2,3 (1998).
Before gaining recognition as an author and photographer, she was a talented clarinetist who majored in music at Hunter College. She subsequently won a Fulbright scholarship to study in Cologne, Germany. Eventually she studied photography with Lou Bernstein and Mort Shapiro.
In addition to her own works, Alda also co-wrote a book titled The Last Days of Mash in 1983 featuring her photographic work alongside her husband Alan Alda.
Arlene married actor Alan Alda in 1958. Together they raised three daughters: Eve, Elizabeth, and Beatrice.
