About Annie Edson Taylor
Annie Edson Taylor (October 24, 1838 – April 29, 1921) was an explorer from Auburn, New York. She is best known for being the first person to survive going over Niagara Falls inside of a barrel.
Before gaining fame for her daring feat, Taylor aspired to become a dance instructor. Despite the risks involved, she successfully completed her historic plunge in October 1901.
Taylor’s remarkable accomplishment garnered widespread attention and even inspired a feature film titled “Niagara: Miracles, Myths and Magic.”
Throughout her life, Taylor had a large family; she grew up alongside eight siblings at her father’s flour mill before marrying David Taylor and having one son.
