About Annie Dillard
Annie Dillard is an American non-fiction author, born on April 30, 1945 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She is known for a diverse body of work that includes fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. In 1974, she was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for her book Pilgrim at Tinker Creek. Some of her other notable works include An American Childhood, For the Time Being, and The Maytrees.
Dillard studied creative writing at Hollins College in Southwest Virginia before publishing her debut work – a poetry collection titled Tickets for a Prayer Wheel – in 1974. She also published an essay collection called Teaching a Stone to Talk in 1982.
Her personal life has been marked by significant relationships; she was married to poet R.H.W. Dillard who had been her professor at Hollins College before marrying historical biographer Robert D. Richardson following the end of her first marriage.
