Annette Kellerman (1886-07-06) was an Australian movie actress credited for popularizing one-piece swimsuits for women. She attempted to swim the English Channel and acted in several films, including “A Daughter of the Gods.”
Before achieving fame, Kellerman wore steel leg braces to overcome a leg disability. Through her perseverance, she eventually developed full mobility and strength, as well as the ability to swim.
