About Anne Moody
Anne Moody, born on September 15, 1940 in Mississippi, was a renowned memoirist known for her influential work Coming of Age in Mississippi (1968). She also authored Mr. Death: Four Stories (1975). A prominent figure in the Civil Rights Movement, Moody actively participated in organizations such as the Congress of Racial Equality, the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, and the NAACP.
Before gaining fame as a writer and activist, Moody briefly attended Natchez Junior College on an athletic scholarship before earning her bachelor’s degree from Tougaloo College. Notably, she wrote a sequel to Coming of Age in Mississippi titled Farewell to Too Sweet but never published it.
Born to Elmira “Toosweet” Moody with nine younger siblings; Anne married Austin Straus and had a son before their marriage ended in divorce.
