About Ann Rutledge
Ann Rutledge was born on January 7, 1813 in Kentucky. She is best known as the first love of Abraham Lincoln and for tragically dying of typhoid at a young age.
Rutledge came from a large family, with nine siblings, and her father played a role in establishing New Salem, Illinois.
The news of her supposed relationship with Lincoln did not surface until after his assassination. She was engaged to John MacNamar who left Salem and never returned.
A fictionalized version of Rutledge appeared in the novel “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.”
