Alison Gertz, born on February 27th, 1966 in New York, was an activist remembered for her impactful work in HIV and AIDS awareness. Despite her untimely death at the age of twenty-six, she appeared frequently on television and was featured in The New York Times. Gertz was diagnosed with AIDS at the age of twenty-one and later discovered that she had contracted the disease six years earlier from a one-time encounter with Cort Brown. She studied at Parsons The New School for Design in New York City.
Gertz’s advocacy revolved around promoting safe sex practices and emphasizing that AIDS can affect anyone. She hailed from Manhattan as the only child of Jerrold and Carol Gertz, both business executives.
