Amy Vanderbilt was a novelist and author known for her writings about etiquette. She gained fame through her 1952 book Amy Vanderbilt’s Complete Book of Etiquette, as well as her cook book, Amy Vanderbilt’s Complete Cook Book. From 1954 to 1960, she hosted a television show called It’s in Good Taste.

Prior to gaining recognition as an author, Vanderbilt began her career at the age of 16 by writing for the Staten Island Advance. After studying in Switzerland and attending the Packer Collegiate Institute in Brooklyn, she graduated from New York University. Before writing her first book, she worked in public relations and advertising.

Her radio show, The Right Thing to Do, ran from 1960 to 1962. Additionally, she briefly worked for the U.S. Department of State.

Vanderbilt passed away on December 27th, 1974 due to falling or jumping from the second story of her townhouse. It is unknown if her fall was the result of suicide or a side-effect of her hypertension medications which caused spells of dizziness.

Born on July 22nd,1908in New York City, New York,Vanderbilt was a descendent of Cornelius Vanderbilt.She married three times before marrying Curtis Kellar and had children named Gill (from her second marriage), Paul,and Stephen(fromher third marriage).
