About Amy B Smith
Amy B Smith (born November 4, 1962) is a mechanical engineering professor, inventor, and founder of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s D-Lab for creative design. Born in Lexington, Massachusetts, she received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from MIT before taking a break to join the Peace Corps.
Smith is noted for her numerous inventions including the screen-less motorized hammer mill and the phase-change incubator. Her father, Arthur Smith, was a Professor of Electrical Engineering at MIT.
