About Alva Myrdal
Alva Myrdal (born January 31, 1902) was a Swedish politician and sociologist known for her influential work in advocating the creation of the Swedish welfare state. In recognition of her efforts towards disarmament negotiations at the United Nations, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1982.
Myrdal grew up in Uppsala, Sweden and went on to marry fellow Swedish politician Gunnar Myrdal in 1924. Her notable contributions include her 1934 book “Crisis in the Population Question,” which addressed the necessity for social reforms to ensure individual liberties for women.
