About Alice Huyler Ramsey
Alice Huyler Ramsey (born November 11, 1886) was a New Jersey woman who made history by becoming the first woman to successfully drive across the United States from coast to coast in 1909. She embarked on her journey from Hell’s Gate, New York and completed it in San Francisco, California.
Her remarkable achievement led to her being named the Woman Motorist of the Century by AAA and later becoming the first woman inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame.
Prior to this feat, Alice attended Vassar College from 1903 to 1905 and then married congressman John R. Ramsey in January 1906. The couple had two children named John and Alice.
Known for her love of adventure, Alice continued to venture cross-country more than thirty times between 1909 and 1975, showcasing her pioneering spirit and dedication to exploration.
