About Alice McDermott
Alice McDermott is an accomplished American novelist born on June 27, 1953 in Brooklyn, New York. She is best known for winning the National Book Award for her 1998 novel, Charming Billy. Among her other notable works are Child of My Heart: A Novel and the Pulitzer Prize-nominated After This published in 2006.
Prior to her literary success, McDermott obtained her bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Oswego in 1975 and later pursued a master’s degree from the University of New Hampshire.
Notably, McDermott has had her short stories featured in various prestigious publications including The New Yorker, Seventeen, and Mademoiselle. In addition to her writing career, she has also raised three children with her husband who works as a neuroscientist.
