Alberta King was a family member born on September 13, 1904, in Georgia. She tragically met her death several years after the assassination of her famous son, civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. Her shooter confronted her in the Ebenezer Baptist Church where her son, husband, and father had all preached.
Before gaining fame, she graduated from Spelman College in Georgia and completed a teacher’s course at Hampton University in Virginia.
A young African American man named Marcus Wayne Chenault murdered Alberta King. He suffered from mental illness and believed all people of the Christian faith to be his enemies. In 1995, while serving a lifetime prison sentence, he died of a stroke.
Born as Alberta Christine Williams to Jenny Celeste Parks and Reverend Adam McNeil Williams of Atlanta, Georgia. She married Martin Luther King Sr., with whom she had three children: Martin Luther King Jr., Christine King Farris, and Alfred Daniel Williams King I.
