Alannah Currie was born on September 20, 1957, in Auckland, New Zealand. She is a pop singer and songwriter best known for her role as the former singer of the pop group Thompson Twins.
Prior to her music career, she worked as a rock journalist in the United Kingdom after moving there in 1977. In addition to her musical pursuits, Currie has also been involved in activism. She founded Mothers Against Genetic Engineering in Food and the Environment, an organization aimed at protesting genetic engineering.
