Sharon Pratt Kelly, born on January 30, 1944 in Washington, DC, United States, is a politician who served as the Mayor of the District of Columbia from 1991 to 1995. She holds the distinction of being the first African American woman to serve as mayor of a major U.S. city.

Pratt Kelly’s tenure as mayor was marked by challenges, and she has often been held responsible for the city’s significant deficit during her time in office.

Prior to her political career, Pratt Kelly was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority at Howard University, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in political science.
