Saskia van Uylenburgh was born on August 2, 1612, in Leeuwarden, Netherlands.

She is best known as the wife and model for the renowned Baroque painter Rembrandt von Rijn.

Before fame, Saskia met Rembrandt while traveling through Amsterdam with a company of painters.

Despite being of a much higher social class than Rembrandt, she pushed to marry him as soon as possible.

The couple married in 1634 and had one child who survived into adulthood.

In addition to being recognized for her role as a model, Saskia’s prominence has also been attributed to her marriage to the famous artist during her lifetime.
