Ruth Speer (born January 1, 1996) is a British-born German-American artist known for her paintings of fantastical and imaginary beings. Born in England, she has gained recognition for her work featuring female figures, antique costumes, botany and self-portraiture.

Speer often shares her process of painting ethereal figures on her Instagram account septemberwildflowers, which has amassed over 200,000 followers. Before gaining fame as an artist, she studied painting with a minor in art history.

Many of Speer’s pieces are inspired by children’s books. She once shared with her followers that her “biggest dream is to live in a forest tower with lots of books where no one can find me.” Her work often incorporates symbolism to articulate allegories.

Born to a graphic designer mother and raised alongside sisters who shared her love for drawing, Speer relocated from England to Oregon at some point in her life.
