About Aimee Bender
Aimee Bender, born on June 28, 1969 in California, is a novelist known for her surrealistic works such as the short story collection “The Girl in the Flammable Skirt” and the novel “An Invisible Sign of My Own.” She has earned two Pushcart Prizes and received a New York Times Notable Book designation. Her novel “An Invisible Sign of My Own” was adapted into a film in 2010 starring Jessica Alba.
Bender obtained an undergraduate degree from the University of California at San Diego and an MFA in creative writing from the University of California, Irvine. She taught at both the University of Southern California and the University of California, Los Angeles’ Extension program.
Notably, she published her second novel “The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake” in 2010 following her second short story collection debut with “Willful Creatures” five years earlier. A Los Angeles native, Bender grew up in this city.
