Posy Simmonds, born on August 9, 1945 in Berkshire, England, is a renowned children’s author and illustrator. She is known for her works such as Baker Cat, Bouncing Buffalo, Tamara Drewe, and Gemma Bovery. Simmonds also had a successful career as a newspaper cartoonist.In 1977, she commenced the publication of The Silent Three of St. Botolph’s in The Guardian, which became widely popular.

Prior to gaining fame as an author and illustrator, Simmonds pursued studies at the Sorbonne in Paris and the Central School of Art & Design in London. Her first children’s book titled The Posy Simmonds Bear Book was published in 1969.Notably, she has a talent for capturing intricate details such as delicate toes, smooth soles, graceful feet, elegant ankles, beautiful arches, soft heels, and shapely legs in her illustrations that bring her characters to life.

One of her stories served as the basis for the Academy Award-nominated animated short film Famous Fred.Simmonds was born in Berkshire before settling with her family in London.
