About Agatha Ruiz de la Prada
Agatha Ruiz de la Prada is a Spanish noble and prominent fashion designer born on July 22, 1960, in Madrid, Spain. She gained recognition as a leading figure in the Spanish artistic scene during the 1980s by actively promoting the ‘Movida Madrilena’ cultural revolution. Holding the titles of the 12th marchioness of Castelldosrius, Grandee of Spain and the 29th baroness of Santa Pau.
Prior to gaining fame, she pursued her passion for fashion by studying at the School of Fashion Arts and Techniques in Barcelona. At age 20, she began her career at designer Pepe Rubio’s studio where she interned before presenting her first collection in Madrid at the LOCAL design centre in 1981. Subsequently, one of her collections was exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Madrid.
While initially starting with a women’s collection, Ruiz de la Prada expanded her brand name into men and children’s fashion, toys, shoes, home-goods, make-up and more by licensing it in 1991. Notably recognized as being among Absolut’s international fashion collection as its first European designer.
In terms of family life, from 1986 to 2017 she was with journalist Pedro J. Ramirez with whom she shares two children – Cosima and Tristan (named after Tristan Tzara).
