Lurlene McDaniel, born on April 5, 1944 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is an American young adult author known for her work encompassing over 70 novels. Her writing often tackles challenging real-life issues such as illness and death.

Before gaining recognition as a prolific author, she attended the University of South Florida – Tampa. To ensure accuracy in her stories, McDaniel conducted interviews with hospice workers and other medical professionals.

Her personal experience includes having a son diagnosed with juvenile diabetes at the age of three. This experience significantly shaped her approach to addressing difficult topics in her novels.
