Louise Elisabeth Vigee Le Brun was a French painter born on April 16, 1755. She is widely considered the most important female painter of the 1700’s, known for masterworks like the 1783 Portrait of Marie Antoinette. Before gaining fame, her studio was seized due to practicing without a license.

She later applied to Academie de Saint Luc.During the French Revolution, she fled France and lived in Rome where her work received great acclaim.She came from an artistic family; her father was portraitist Louis Vigee.
