Iris Dement Feet
Iris DeMent is a folk and country musician born on January 5, 1961 in Paragould, Arkansas. Her music explores themes of religion, small-town America, and politics.
Before her career as a musician took off, she worked as a waitress. Her debut album “Infamous Angel” was released in 1992 and featured the song “Let the Mystery Be,” which has been widely covered by other artists.
DeMent received a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Folk Album for her second release “My Life” (1994), dedicated to her late father.
She was raised in a Pentecostal household by her parents Pat DeMent and Flora Mae, where she developed an appreciation for country, folk, and gospel music.
