Molly Shannon is a comedian born on September 16, 1964, in Shaker Heights, Ohio. She is best known as a cast member on Saturday Night Live from 1995 to 2001, where she became famous for her wild and eccentric characters. Beyond SNL, Shannon played Betty Lou Who in the 2000 movie How the Grinch Stole Christmas and was nominated for an Emmy in 2013 for her guest appearance on the HBO series Enlightened.
Prior to her fame, Shannon studied drama at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and graduated in 1987. She ventured into acting with bit roles on shows like In Living Color and Twin Peaks,, as well as appearing in the horror film remake of The Phantom of the Opera.
Molly Shannon starred in the film Superstar in 1999, a spin-off based on one of her popular SNL characters called Mary Katherine Gallagher. Additionally, she voices Wanda in the Hotel Transylvania films.
In her personal life, Molly has two children with Fritz Chesnut whom she married in 2004. Tragically when she was four years old she was involved in a car accident which killed her mother, younger sister, and cousin while sparing Molly herself.
