Erna Brodber is a remarkable Jamaican author, born on April 20, 1940. A maestro in weaving captivating stories, she expertly delves into human complexities and cultural nuances throughout her novels such as The Rainmaker’s Mistake and Louisiana. In 1988, she was rightfully awarded the Caribbean and Canadian Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for her novel Myal. Besides being an accomplished writer, Brodber pursued knowledge relentlessly, earning both a B.A. and a Ph.D from the esteemed University College of the West Indies. Growing up in the enchanting Woodside of Saint Mary Parish in Jamaica greatly influenced her perspective and storytelling prowess. Her exceptional contributions to literature were honored with the prestigious Jamaican Musgrave Gold Award in 1999.
