Emily Saliers, born on July 22, 1963 in New Haven, Connecticut, is a folk singer and songwriter known for her talent in playing various instruments such as piano and mandolin. She is notably recognized as one half of the folk rock duo Indigo Girls.

Prior to gaining fame as a musician, Saliers studied English at Emory University where the final formation of Indigo Girls took place. Apart from her musical career, she is an outspoken advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community.
