Emily Brightwell is an American author known for her mysteries and young adult fiction. She was born on November 10, 1948 in West Virginia. Brightwell has published several well-received series including the Mrs. Jeffries, Dear Diary, and Life at Sixteen. Her writing career began with the publication of her first novel Kindred Spirits in 1990 under the pseudonym Sarah Temple.

Notably, she authored thirty-three titles in the Mrs. Jeffries Victorian murder mystery series between 1993 and 2014. Emily Brightwell raised two children, Matthew and Amanda, with her husband Richard James Arguile.
